Director with Chelsea Pensioners
I particularly commend a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas. This was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Kent in May 2001 and the RAMC Grove was dedicated in October 2002. On the same site is the Armed Forces Memorial, formally dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury in October 2007 in the presence of HM The Queen.

Westminster Abbey

The RAMC has the unique privilege of a magnificent window in Westminster Abbey situated adjacent to the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior. Underneath this window are the Corps three Books of Remembrance, housed in wooden display cases. The Golden Book, 1914-18; the Second Book, 1939-45 and Third Book, 1946. The latter book includes the names of the three soldiers lost on operations in Iraq in recent years. It also now contains the names of the Canal Zone casualties, 1951-54, recognised retrospectively in 2005.

On the first Saturday of every month (excepting January when it is on the second) the Turning of the Pages Ceremony takes place. Here, amid a small dignified military ceremony, a page in each of the three books of Remembrance are turned.
